The coronavirus pandemic is a time when each of us is in a state of psychic strain. Nevertheless, now you should do things you did the least before the outbreak. Graphic designer, Aleksandar Radovic, and cartoonist and painter, Agim Krasniqi are the interlocutors in the new “ArcCult” project video.
What is their message for young artists in Kosovo?
“Either you are an artist or you are not. Art stems from one’s own being and it is always nurtured regardless of external factors and conditions. Someone who loves art and has the potential in that regard – will make art. Regardless if a person is an artist or not, everyone should do what they love, that’s a good thing,” says Aleksandar Radovic.
“Young people should be more involved in art, they should stay away from politics,” says Agim Krasniqi, adding: “After all, it is better to make art that provides spiritual peace… In order for us to move forward…”
The interlocutors agree that art is important for the reconciliation process in Kosovo.
“It is important because we have a conflict of interest and culture, and culture and art are one and the same, they go side by side. If we were to overcome cultural prejudice, reconciliation would be achieved” – Radovic explains.
“It would be ideal if we were more involved in art and less with political issues,” says Krasniqi. He believes that one way to achieve this would be joint participation in cultural events which would “enrich this society even more.”
Their message to the audience?
“Everyone is shut up between four walls now. Everyone is spending more time by themselves… This is an ideal time for the rise of culture and art. If you feel deprived of artistic awareness – inform yourself, do the things you did the least throughout your life. If you haven’t been physically active enough – be active now; if you have never tried drawing in your life – then try drawing, analyze your drawing, give yourself a puzzle to solve, come face to face with yourself. Strengthen your weaknesses now that you are by yourself,” Radovic says.
“Respect this pandemic situation, do not break the rules set by the doctors, so we can get through this together and get out of this crisis. I believe that a better tomorrow will come,” Krasniqi said.
The video is produced as an activity of the “ArtCult” project, implemented by the Alternativna Website in partnership with PKC “Akvarijus”, the online platform Crno Beli Svet and the Gracanica Online portal which produced this video. The project is supported by UNMIK.
